I wasn’t good at particular tasks and activities
Tell us about your struggles
Ever since I was a little child in elementary school, I struggled to sit in a chair during class, in front of my parents, or front of a tutor and listen to their exact instructions and comply with them. I also have an extremely hard time managing my time and belongings to this day. As a result, I always had one of the worst grades in my class and a bad reputation for being late and forgetting things.
How did you work to overcome it
In the past, I used to try my best to overcome these issues I had. But in high school and after that, I decided to just not to focus on what I could not do. I decided to sleep through classes or read articles that I was interested in. I even went as far as getting off the train half way to school and studied what ever I was interested in at Starbucks.
As a result, I was able to focus on what I really was good at and ended up going to one of the schools I really wanted to go to. However, a similar issue arose at university as well. I was not interested in the classes and I couldn’t sit through the even longer 100-minute classes. So I stopped going.
And the decision that I made in high school to “only focus on what I was really interested in” actually helped out. I was able to use my skills of producing and creating commercials and content for the internet.
How are you doing today
The current situation that I’m in is very demanding yet very exciting compared to the experience I had back in school. Now, I’m working at a start up far from my hometown and also started my own business using my skills.
What did you learn from this experience
The important point is that I haven’t solved or overcome any of the issues I had in the past and have now. Because even if you don’t over conditions you have there is always a workaround to the problem.
For example: keep your things in your bag if you’re gonna forget them somewhere. Making phone calls to suspected locations where you lost your item most of the time will help you find your stuff. If you lose your credit card just stop it. If you’re bored in class just stop going, or do something else in class.
I strongly advise you to focus all your resources into what you’re really good at to make a big difference between others. Because that is the skill you need in the future.
A message to your past self
Just give up what you’re not good at.
