I had a hard time with studying because both my parents were American, so I didn’t have anyone to help me.
Tell us about your struggles
Growing up with American parents in Japan was hard, since they couldn’t help me with any of my school subjects. Because of this, when I didn’t understand something in class or needed help with my homework, I had no one to help me. Because of this, my grades in the mainly Japanese subject were always low, especially as I got older and the classes go harder.
How did you try to overcome this issue?
I am very shy, and was embarrassed to ask anyone to help me with what I was struggling with. But later, I got over that when I met other people who were just like me, and started asking my friends and teachers with help when I needed it.
How are you doing today?
Now, I am not afraid to ask questions, and have gotten better in some of the subjects I used to struggle in.
What did you learn from this experience?
I learned that you should never be afraid to ask for help, and I advise people to also never be afraid to do so too. You should also never be ashamed about not being able to understand something.
What can you tell your past self?
Don’t be ashamed of the fact that you don’t understand something, because people will always be willing to help you.
